Born Colvin Scott in Clarendon, Jamaica, the celebrated singer had been battling lymphoma since 2019 and suffered from pneumonia in recent months. He was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe vomiting before his passing.

Known for hits like "Rocking Dolly," "Israel's King," and "I Lost My Sonia," Cocoa Tea rose to prominence in the 1980s, earning international acclaim for his smooth vocals and conscious lyrics. His last live performance was on the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise three years ago.

Jamaica's Minister of Culture, Olivia Grange, praised him as "one of the greatest reggae singers who ever lived," highlighting his significant contribution to the genre over decades.

Despite his declining health, Cocoa Tea remained positive until the end. His wife Malvia recalled his bravery, saying, "Even in the hospital, he told me not to worry. He was always hopeful."
