Stone rose to prominence as a member of The Sequence, the first all-female rap group on Sugar Hill Records, known for their hit "Funk You Up." Her successful solo career included chart-topping singles like "No More Rain (In This Cloud)," which dominated Billboard's Adult R&B chart for 10 weeks.
Born December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone began singing in church at a young age. Her musical journey included being part of the trio Vertical Hold before launching her solo career. In 2000, she joined Clive Davis' J Records, alongside notable artists like Alicia Keys and Luther Vandross.
Stone was scheduled to perform at the CIAA Men's Championship basketball game halftime show on the day of her passing. Her children, Diamond and Michael Archer, released a statement expressing their devastation at the unexpected loss.
Stone's longtime manager, Walter Millsap III, and the CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams-Parker both acknowledged her significant impact on the music industry and her inspiring presence in the community.
