YouTube Launches Digital Jewels Gifting System to Rival TikTok
YouTube is introducing digital 'jewels' as virtual gifts that viewers can purchase and send to creators during livestreams, similar to TikTok's coins system. This new feature is rolling out across the US for eligible YouTube Partner Program creators.

Key features of YouTube's jewels system:
- Gifts appear on screen during livestreams
- Creators earn "rubies" valued at one cent each
- Revenue share is variable based on jewel cost and promotions
- 50% bonus earnings (up to $1,000/month) for first three months
- Only works on vertical livestreams and mobile app
Limitations:
- Creators must choose between gifts or Super Stickers
- Only available through YouTube mobile app for viewers
- Limited to vertical livestreams or third-party streaming software
This feature follows the success of similar virtual gifting systems on platforms like TikTok and Twitch, where viewers have shown high engagement with digital gift purchases during livestreams.
