Universal Music New Zealand Names New Co-Managing Directors as Adam Holt Steps Down

Universal Music New Zealand has announced significant leadership changes, with Managing Director & Chairman Adam Holt set to retire on April 30, 2025, after 24 years at the helm and 34 years with UMG.

Myra Hemara and Matt Kidd will succeed Holt as Co-Managing Directors effective May 1, 2025, reporting to Universal Music Australia & New Zealand President and CEO Sean Warner.

During his tenure, Holt fostered a positive culture at both UMNZ and UMA, earning widespread respect from employees and artists. Warner praised Holt's exemplary commitment to the company, artists, and the broader New Zealand music industry.

The incoming leadership team brings substantial experience:

Myra Hemara:

  • Joined UMNZ in 2006
  • Established the label's digital department
  • Appointed General Manager in 2017
  • Led international artist marketing and audience development

Matt Kidd:

  • 12-year veteran at UMNZ
  • Started in promotions and public relations
  • Led domestic repertoire and business development
  • Focused on global expansion of New Zealand talent since 2017

Both Co-Managing Directors will work alongside UMNZ Chief Financial Officer & Commercial Director Tony Jenks to lead the company into its next chapter. They have expressed commitment to building upon Holt's legacy while fostering innovation and continued success for New Zealand artists both domestically and internationally.

The leadership transition marks a new era for Universal Music New Zealand, with a focus on maintaining the company's strong market position while adapting to the evolving music industry landscape.
