The platform now supports both portrait and landscape modes for livestreaming, with desktop users getting horizontal view by default. Mobile users can rotate their devices for horizontal viewing, making it particularly appealing for game streamers and positioning TikTok to compete with Twitch and YouTube Gaming.

New Features for Content Organization:

  • Collections feature for categorizing favorite videos (similar to YouTube playlists)
  • Desktop-optimized Explore page
  • Personalized content curation based on user interests

"Our users interact with TikTok in many different ways, which is why we're excited to introduce these web app updates," says Cody Puckett, Product Manager at TikTok. The platform aims to translate its mobile success to desktop while maintaining its signature engaging experience.

Platform Evolution:

  • Extended video length limits (now up to 10 minutes)
  • Testing 60-minute video uploads
  • Enhanced desktop functionality
  • Competing with YouTube's 2.5 billion active users

These updates represent TikTok's strategic push to expand beyond its mobile-first roots and establish itself as a comprehensive video platform across all devices.
