Quavo Hit with Copyright Lawsuit Over 'Bubble Gum' Song
Quavo faces a copyright infringement lawsuit over his 2018 song "Bubble Gum" from his debut solo album, Quavo Huncho. Rapper L.Mont (Lamount London) filed the lawsuit in California, claiming Quavo copied elements from his 2015 track of the same name.
Quavo sued over bubblegum song rights
The lawsuit details several key points:
- L.Mont registered his song with the US copyright office in 2015 and released it on major streaming platforms
- L.Mont performed as an opening act for 2 Chainz and Migos in New Orleans
- At an afterparty, L.Mont gave Quavo a demo CD containing the track
- Quavo allegedly used protected elements from L.Mont's song without authorization
Universal Music Group, Quality Control Music, Capitol Records, and Motown are named as co-defendants in the case. L.Mont seeks an injunction to stop further distribution of the song, plus damages and attorney fees.
The lawsuit states that defendants "willfully copied and sampled many protected elements of the Plaintiff's copyrights" and created unauthorized derivative works.
