MusiCares Distributes $2.2M in Wildfire Relief, Donations Surpass $3.2M Mark

MusiCares has distributed $2.2 million in wildfire relief aid to music industry professionals affected by the Los Angeles wildfires, with total donations reaching $3.2 million thus far.

The organization plans to raise additional funds through two upcoming events:

  • FireAid benefit concert at the Kia Forum and Intuit Dome (January 30)
  • MusiCares Person of the Year celebration honoring The Grateful Dead

Relief Eligibility Requirements:

  • Three years of music industry experience OR
  • Six commercially released recordings
  • Recording Academy membership not required

Aid Package Includes:

  • $1,500 financial assistance
  • $500 grocery card

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. emphasized that all $3.2 million in current donations are already allocated, with thousands more music professionals needing assistance. The organization expects support will be necessary for several years to help those who lost homes, studios, and instruments.

"MusiCares started getting requests, and it's now thousands of music people who need help," Mason stated, highlighting the urgent need for continued support and awareness of available resources.

The Grammy Awards has also modified its programming to focus on wildfire fund-raising efforts and increase awareness of available assistance for affected music industry professionals.
