The lawsuit centers on allegations made by an anonymous dancer who claims Brown raped her on a yacht in 2020. Brown's legal team argues that the documentary contains "defamatory" and "baseless" claims that have "irreparably tarnished" his reputation and career. They assert that Warner Bros. Discovery ignored their warnings about "misleading" and "discredited" allegations before releasing the film.
The complaint specifically challenges three claims from the documentary:
- That Brown has a "predisposition for punching women in the face"
- The dancer's rape allegation
- Claims that he manipulated text messages shared with law enforcement
The anonymous dancer previously filed a $20 million lawsuit against Brown in 2022 under a Jane Doe pseudonym, alleging he drugged and raped her at a Miami yacht party on Sean "Diddy" Combs' property. That case was later dismissed.
While Brown's lawyers emphasize he has "never been found at fault for any type of sexual crime," the artist has faced multiple legal issues involving violence. Notable incidents include:
- 2009: Pleaded guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna
- 2014: Pleaded guilty to punching a man outside a Washington, D.C. hotel
- 2016: Accused of assault by a model at a Las Vegas casino (no charges filed)
- 2017: Court-ordered to stay away from ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran after death threats
