Metallica is launching a new Vision Pro 'immersive concert experience' alongside an Apple Music-exclusive EP on March 14th. The content was filmed during their Mexico City concert at Estadio GNP Seguros in September 2024.

The immersive experience will feature three iconic Metallica songs:

  • "Whiplash"
  • "One"
  • "Enter Sandman"

The performance was captured using 14 immersive video cameras with a custom stage layout, combining:

  • Stabilized cameras
  • Cable-suspended cameras
  • Remote-controlled camera dolly systems

The concert footage will be available in two formats:

  1. Vision Pro immersive experience
  2. Spatial-audio EP "M72 World Tour: Mexico City" on Apple Music

Lars Ulrich, Metallica's drummer, described the Vision Pro experience as "game-changing" during a SXSW conversation with Apple Music's Zane Lowe.

Apple is also preparing to release "Bono: Stories of Surrender" on May 30th, marking the first feature-length film available in Apple Immersive Video on Vision Pro. The documentary will release simultaneously on Apple TV+ and Vision Pro.

The concerts were part of Metallica's M72 World Tour, with four sold-out shows at the 65,000-capacity stadium. The band is scheduled to resume touring next month.

Note: The Vision Pro headset, priced at $3,500, reportedly ceased production in 2024 but continues to receive content updates and experiences from major artists.
