John Mayer and McG to Acquire Historic Charlie Chaplin Studios for $60M in Hollywood Deal
Grammy-winning musician John Mayer and filmmaker McG are set to acquire the historic Jim Henson Studio lot in Hollywood for a reported $60 million. The property, located at 1416 N. La Brea in Los Angeles, has a rich history in entertainment, serving as home to Charlie Chaplin Studios, A&M Records, and The Muppets.

The Jim Henson Company is selling the property to consolidate its operations with Jim Henson's Creature Shop into a single facility, as the current Hollywood lot cannot accommodate both. While rumors circulated about the Church of Scientology's interest in the property, the Henson family confirmed they were not considered as potential buyers.
The studio lot's legacy dates back to 1917 when Charlie Chaplin established his studio there. After Chaplin's sale in 1953, the property hosted various television productions before becoming A&M Records' headquarters in 1966. The Henson Company acquired it in 1999 for $12.5 million, with its value rising to $21.9 million by 2017.
John Mayer already maintains offices at the location and uses its recording facilities, making this acquisition a natural expansion of his existing presence at the historic property.
