Indie artist Steven Cravis recently discovered that Peloton pays significantly higher streaming rates than major music platforms. His track "Dark Crystal," released under the name Happy Halloween Music, earned $1,078.46 for 26,456 streams on Peloton—approximately $0.0407 per stream.

This rate is about 10 times higher than traditional streaming services:

  • Peloton: $0.0407 per stream
  • Apple Music: $0.0068 per stream
  • Spotify: $0.0035 per stream
  • Tidal: $0.0088 per stream
  • YouTube: $0.0015 per stream

The substantial earnings came from a Halloween-themed Peloton cycling class playlist, which featured Cravis's track alongside other spooky selections. Ironically, the same song earned zero royalties on Spotify due to recent policy changes requiring tracks to reach 1,000 streams within 12 months to qualify for payments.

While Peloton's reach is smaller compared to major streaming platforms, its higher payout rate offers a valuable revenue stream for artists whose music fits the platform's fitness-focused content. This case highlights the significant disparity in streaming compensation across different platforms and demonstrates how alternative streaming services can provide meaningful income for independent artists.
