Opry Entertainment Group Acquires Southern Entertainment, Expands Into Festival Business
Opry Entertainment Group (OEG) has acquired a majority stake in Southern Entertainment, marking its strategic entry into the music festival industry. Southern Entertainment, founded by Bob Durkin and Rob Pedlow, has produced over 500 live music events, including major country music festivals.

Key Southern Entertainment festivals include:
- Carolina Country Music Fest (Myrtle Beach)
- Barefoot Country Music Fest (New Jersey)
- Lovin' Life Music Fest (Charlotte)
While financial terms weren't disclosed, Durkin and Pedlow will continue leading Southern Entertainment operations. The acquisition aims to:
- Accelerate expansion into new markets
- Integrate OEG's artist development programs into festivals
- Create new artist-centered experiences
- Expand reach to complementary fan bases
This acquisition comes during a challenging period for the festival industry, with approximately 200 festivals canceled in the previous year. However, the country music festival sector shows strong performance:
- Stagecoach Festival has sold out its 2025 GA passes
- Kid Rock's Rock the Country Festival is expanding to 10 states
- Major country acts are featuring in high-profile events, including the Super Bowl pre-show events
The partnership combines Southern Entertainment's festival expertise with Opry Entertainment's iconic status in country music, positioning both companies for strategic growth in the live entertainment sector.
