Blakk Soul Sues Playboi Carti Over 'Kelly K' Copyright and Unpaid Royalties
Playboi Carti is facing a copyright infringement lawsuit over his song "Kelly K" from singer/songwriter/producer Eric Mercer Jr. (professionally known as Blakk Soul), who claims he contributed vocals to the track without receiving proper compensation.

The lawsuit, filed in California federal court, names Carti (Jordan Carter), Cash Carti Music, Universal Music, and Interscope Records as defendants. "Kelly K," which appears on Carti's 2017 debut mixtape, has accumulated over 55 million Spotify streams.
According to the lawsuit:
- Mercer recorded vocals with producer Jake One (Jacob Dutton), who is officially credited on the track
- Mercer never transferred his rights to Dutton or the defendants before the song's release
- In July 2019, Carti's team offered Mercer a 5% ownership interest in "Kelly K"
- Mercer signed the agreement in January 2020 but claims he never received payment or accounting
Mercer attempted to rescind the agreement through email and certified mail but received no response from the defendants. The lawsuit seeks damages for:
- Copyright infringement
- California publicity-right violations
- Breach of contract
- Unjust enrichment
