The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) has launched its official search for a new CEO to succeed Richard Burgess, who will step down in early 2026 after a decade of leadership.

The organization, representing over 750 member companies in the United States, seeks a visionary leader to manage both its 501(c)(6) trade organization and 501(c)(3) non-profit operations.
Key responsibilities for the new CEO include:
- Developing effective programming
- Serving as a copyright expert
- Building strategic industry partnerships
- Creating and implementing strategies for independent labels to thrive in the evolving music landscape
The role requires expertise in navigating challenges such as:
- Emerging AI technologies
- Streaming service compensation changes
- Industry consolidation trends
