Tupac Murder Suspect Keefe D Claims Innocence in First Prison Interview - Cold Case Takes New Turn
Duane 'Keefe D' Davis has emphatically denied involvement in Tupac Shakur's 1996 murder during his first interview since his September 2023 arrest. Speaking to ABC News from Clark County Detention Center in Nevada, Davis claims he's being wrongly accused and was paid to make previous confessions.

Prosecutors allege Davis, a former Crips gang leader from Compton, orchestrated the Las Vegas drive-by shooting that killed Tupac Shakur. The shooting occurred when a car pulled alongside the BMW carrying Shakur and Suge Knight at a red light, firing multiple shots. Shakur died six days later from his wounds.
The case against Davis largely relies on his own previous accounts of the murder, including:
- Multiple police interviews
- Public media appearances
- His 2019 memoir "Compton Street Legend"
Davis now claims:
- He never read the memoir, despite being listed as co-author
- His co-author took creative liberties with the story
- He was in Los Angeles, not Las Vegas, during the murder
- "They don't have no gun, no car, no Keefe D, no nothing"
Key background: In 2008, Davis first confessed his alleged role while speaking to investigators about the Notorious B.I.G. murder under a "proffer agreement" protecting him from prosecution. He repeated these claims to Las Vegas detectives in 2009, but this confession wasn't covered by the original agreement.
The case is scheduled for jury trial in approximately 11 months, with prosecutors building their case primarily around Davis' previous confessions and corroborating evidence gathered over several years of investigation.
