StubHub hackers arrested over Swift tickets
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the arrest of Tyrone Rose (20) from Kingston, Jamaica, and Shamara P. Simmons (31) from Jamaica, Queens. The pair faces charges including grand larceny, computer tampering, and conspiracy, with potential sentences of 3-15 years if convicted.
The scheme operated from June 2022 to July 2023, during which Rose and an unnamed accomplice, working for StubHub contractor Sutherland in Jamaica, exploited their system access to intercept ticket URLs. They redirected these URLs to Simmons and another conspirator in Queens, who then resold the tickets on StubHub.
The stolen tickets included high-profile events such as:
- Taylor Swift's Eras Tour
- Adele concerts
- Ed Sheeran performances
- NBA games
- US Open Tennis Championships
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour tickets were particularly valuable targets, with prices reaching:
- $3,100 in Indianapolis
- $3,000 in Vancouver, BC
- $2,500 in Miami
The investigation remains ongoing, with the defendants scheduled to return to court on March 7. StubHub's cooperation with authorities was instrumental in uncovering the scheme.
