While Judge James Selna initially considered reducing the damages to $17.8 million in January by removing the $53.6 million in punitive damages, he ultimately decided to maintain the original award amount. The court found that seven dolls in the LOL Surprise! OMG dolls product line copied the likeness of the OMG Girlz trio.
The lawsuit victory was particularly meaningful for the Harris family, with Tiny expressing gratitude on social media: "Don't play with God's children! So thankful and grateful to our amazing law team." She specifically mentioned her happiness for OMG Girlz members Bahja Rodriguez, Breaunna Womack, and her daughter Zonnique.
T.I. defended their decision to pursue legal action, stating that MGA Entertainment had attempted to portray them as aggressors when they were actually victims of intellectual property theft. MGA Entertainment has consistently denied the copyright infringement allegations, but the final ruling upholds both compensatory and punitive damages.
This landmark case represents a significant victory for artists protecting their intellectual property rights in the entertainment and merchandising industry.
