Spotify is expanding its educational content offerings, with evidence suggesting an imminent U.S. rollout of video-learning courses following their successful U.K. pilot program.

The platform currently offers courses in the United Kingdom covering various topics including:
- Meditation
- Cooking
- Communication skills
- Self-care through creativity
U.S. users can now search for the courses category, though content remains inaccessible. This development, spotted by Ride Home Fund's Chris Messina, suggests an upcoming American launch.
The expansion aligns with Spotify's diversification strategy, which already includes:
- Audiobooks with recently added video content
- Video podcasts
- TV shows
- Concert specials
This move has significant implications for royalty payments, as bundled content receives statutory royalty discounts. Currently, less than 1% of U.S. Spotify subscriptions are standalone music-only packages, highlighting the platform's shift toward mixed-media offerings.
The company is actively investing in these new content areas, recently posting positions for:
- Senior audiobooks editor
- Audiobooks backend engineer (focused on scalable content integration)
While Spotify hasn't officially commented on the U.S. course rollout, the platform continues to expand its non-music entertainment offerings while facing ongoing legal challenges from the MLC regarding its bundling practices.
