Sonos Cuts 200 Jobs in Second Round of Layoffs Amid Major Restructuring
Sonos has announced a major restructuring effort that will result in laying off approximately 200 employees, representing 12% of its total workforce. This marks the company's second round of layoffs in six months.

Interim CEO Tom Conrad revealed the news in an employee letter, citing the need to flatten organizational structure and improve collaboration. "We've become mired in too many layers that have made collaboration and decision-making harder than it needs to be," Conrad explained.
The announcement comes amid ongoing challenges following last year's problematic app update, which removed crucial features and sparked significant customer backlash. This controversy led to:
- The departure of former CEO Patrick Spence in January
- An initial round of 100 job cuts in August
- Continuing issues with the app's functionality
- Declining employee morale and customer trust
Despite these setbacks, Sonos is moving forward with plans to launch a new high-end streaming player, building on the success of its Arc Ultra soundbar. However, the company's recovery efforts remain overshadowed by the ongoing app difficulties and organizational restructuring.
The timing of this announcement, just before the company's first quarter earnings report, suggests continued financial challenges for the audio technology company.
