Songwriter Fund to Reopen Applications After $400,000 in Relief Payments Distributed

The Songwriter Fund, backed by SONA and Sony Music Publishing, is reopening applications after successfully distributing $400,000 in one-time relief payments to songwriters. The third round of financial support will begin accepting applications on Wednesday, April 28th.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S.-based songwriters
  • 18 years or older
  • Minimum 2 years of professional songwriting experience
  • At least 2 years of PRO (Performing Rights Organization) membership

Application Process:

  • Grant amount: $1,000 per approved applicant
  • Funds must be used for critical expenses (food, housing, medical bills)
  • Required documents:
    • Photo ID
    • PRO membership proof
    • Songwriting credits documentation
    • Personal information

The fund has received support from major industry players including:

  • Sony Music Publishing
  • SONA
  • Amazon
  • Spotify
  • Reservoir Media
  • Concord
  • Various individual donors

This initiative is one of only two funds specifically supporting songwriters during the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside PRS for Music's Emergency Relief Fund. The program continues to provide crucial support for the songwriting community during challenging times.
