Social Security Recipients Could Get Double Payments in May 2025: Here's Why
Social Security recipients may receive multiple payments in May 2025 due to the SSA's payment calendar. This timing adjustment occurs when regular payment dates fall on weekends or holidays.
SSI Payment Schedule for May 2025:
- May 1: Regular May SSI payment
- May 30: Early June SSI payment (since June 1 is a weekend)
Regular Social Security Payment Dates (Based on Birthday):
- May 14: Birthdays 1st-10th
- May 21: Birthdays 11th-20th
- May 28: Birthdays after 20th
Combined SSI + Social Security Recipients (Pre-May 1997):
- May 1: SSI payment
- May 3: Social Security payment
Some beneficiaries may receive up to three payments in May:
- Regular SSI payment
- Early June SSI payment
- Standard Social Security benefit
Similar double-payment months in 2025:
- August (payments on Aug. 1 & Aug. 29)
- October (payments on Oct. 1 & Oct. 31)
- December (payments on Dec. 1 & Dec. 31)
SSI Eligibility Requirements (2025):
- Age 65+ OR blind OR disabled
- Limited income (less than $2,019/month from work)
- Limited resources
- Children may qualify with disabilities
Important Note: Multiple payments in May don't mean extra money - the June payment is simply arriving early. Budget accordingly since no SSI payment will come in June.
The SSA adjusts payment schedules to ensure beneficiaries receive their benefits on time, even when regular payment dates fall on non-business days. This schedule applies to approximately 7.4 million Americans receiving SSI benefits, with some also collecting standard Social Security benefits.
