Paramount Halts Major Music Awards Shows for 2025 Amid Skydance Merger

Bruce Gillmer, Paramount's president of music, music talent, programming and events, announced the decision through an internal memo, emphasizing that these changes are part of a broader initiative to "reimagine and optimize" the company's events portfolio. Despite these temporary suspensions, Paramount maintains that events remain a crucial component of their music strategy.
This decision follows Paramount's significant restructuring efforts in 2023, which included:
- A 15% reduction in US workforce
- The closure of Paramount TV Studios
- Multiple rounds of layoffs affecting various divisions, including CBS News
- An estimated $500 million in cost savings
The changes come as Paramount prepares for its merger with Skydance Media, expected to close in the first half of 2025. While these events are paused, Paramount leadership emphasizes their commitment to delivering high-quality entertainment experiences and maintaining their position in driving pop culture moments.
