The film stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael's nephew, in the lead role, alongside a talented cast including Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. Antoine Fuqua directs from a script by John Logan, with Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain producing.

The biopic will feature 30 songs and maintains a lengthy runtime to thoroughly explore Jackson's life story. Director Fuqua expressed his personal connection to the project, citing Jackson's significant influence on his career and artistry.

The October release date strategically positions "Michael" for awards season consideration, following the success model of Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody," which was also produced by Graham King and earned four Oscars while grossing over $903.6 million worldwide.

First footage from the film was unveiled at CinemaCon in April, generating significant buzz among industry insiders. Lionsgate has also scheduled another major release, "Good Fortune," starring Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves, and Seth Rogen, for October 17, 2025.
