Macy's Announces 66 Store Closures in 2025 with Massive Clearance Sales up to 90% Off
Macy's is closing 66 stores across the United States by 2025 as part of their plan to shutter 150 locations by 2026. These closures aim to streamline operations and focus on more profitable stores. Affected locations are offering clearance sales with discounts up to 90% off.
The Sunrise Mall location in Massapequa, New York will be the first major closure on April 11, 2025, impacting 77 jobs. The company will maintain operations through the holiday season and spring promotional periods before final closures.
CEO Tony Spring stated these closures target underperforming stores to better allocate resources. While scaling back traditional retail presence, Macy's plans to expand with 15 new Bloomingdale's and 30 new Bluemercury locations.
After all planned closures, Macy's will operate 350 stores, down from 1,100 in 2008. The 50 already remodeled stores have shown improved sales performance.
