Initial reports from Argentine authorities have confirmed that former One Direction singer Liam Payne, 31, died following a fall from the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires.

According to the forensic medical team of the Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina, the preliminary autopsy revealed:

• Cause of death: Multiple trauma with internal and external bleeding
• Death occurred on impact
• No defensive posture was detected during the fall
• Evidence suggests possible unconscious or semi-conscious state

The Emergency Medical Care System (SAME) reported the incident at 5:40 PM ET on Wednesday, October 16. Hotel staff had initially called authorities reporting an "aggressive man" potentially under the influence. Upon arrival, emergency responders found Payne unresponsive in the hotel's courtyard.

Pablo Policicchio, communications director of the Ministry of Security of Buenos Aires, confirmed that substances indicating potential alcohol or drug use were found in Payne's room. The singer had previously disclosed his struggles with addiction, having announced six months of sobriety earlier this year.

The investigation remains ongoing to determine whether the fall was accidental or intentional. Payne was in Argentina to attend a concert by his former bandmate, Niall Horan.
