Randy Newman Sells 80% of Music Rights to Litmus Music, Including Iconic Toy Story Songs
Randy Newman has sold an 80% stake in his recorded music and publishing rights to Litmus Music, a Carlyle Global Credit-backed company. The deal encompasses Newman's extensive catalog of work, including his iconic contributions to animated films and his solo career achievements.

The acquisition includes Newman's work on beloved animated films such as:
- Toy Story series (including "You've Got a Friend in Me")
- Cars
- Monsters, Inc.
Notable hits in the catalog:
- "I Love L.A." (1983)
- "Feels Like Home" (1990s)
- "Mama Told Me Not to Come" (1967)
- "It's a Jungle Out There" (Monk theme)
The deal also covers Newman's dozen solo studio albums, from his 1968 self-titled debut to 2017's "Dark Matter," along with various soundtrack albums including Pleasantville (1998) and Marriage Story.
Newman's achievements include 23 Grammy nominations and seven wins. While financial terms weren't disclosed, Litmus Music executives expressed their commitment to preserving and managing Newman's musical legacy with care.
This acquisition joins Litmus Music's growing portfolio, which includes recent deals with Katy Perry, Benny Blanco, and Keith Urban.
