iHeartMedia's massive layoffs hit Los Angeles station KFI 640 particularly hard, with 17 of its 25-person news team losing their jobs on Monday. News Director Chris Little, who had been with the station since 1991, was among those let go.

Other key departures include anchor Jo Kwon, editor Erin Ben-Moche, and reporters Corbin Carson and Kris Adler. The cuts are part of iHeartMedia's broader initiative to reduce its $5.21 billion debt, with the company expecting to save approximately $150 million through these measures.

iHeartMedia CEO Bob Pittman clarified that on-air talent would be largely preserved, explaining that technology allows the company to broadcast talent across different markets. However, nearly 500 employees across major markets including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and San Francisco have been affected by these cuts.

The layoffs represent a significant shift in KFI 640's operations, with the news team reduced to just eight remaining members. The timing was particularly poignant, as the station's Christmas tree had been put up just one day before the announcements.
