While authorities have ruled out foul play, the exact cause of death remains under investigation pending autopsy results. His body was discovered after a "significant amount of time" had passed.

A pioneer in Korean R&B, Wheesung debuted in 2002 and became known for emotional ballads like "With Me," "Insomnia," and "Even Thought of Marriage." He later expanded his influence through mentorship and songwriting for emerging K-pop artists. He was scheduled to perform in Daegu this weekend with KCM.

Despite his musical success, Wheesung faced personal challenges. In 2021, he received a two-year suspended sentence for propofol abuse. In 2020, he was found unconscious twice with syringes and etomidate vials nearby, though he later sought treatment.

Fellow artists have shared tributes, including longtime collaborator Yoon Min-soo who wrote: "Wheesung, let's sing and make music freely in that place. I won't forget your pure and clear heart." Rapper Verbal Jint posted: "Every moment we shared was an honor. You've worked so hard. Rest in peace, Wheesung."

The investigation continues as the industry mourns the loss of a voice that shaped Korean R&B. Further details are expected once autopsy results are released.
