John Legend's NFT Platform OurSong Shuts Down Operations After $7.5M Seed Round
John Legend's NFT platform OurSong, operated by Our Happy Company, has ceased operations after receiving $7.5 million in seed funding less than three years ago.
The platform, which launched during the peak of the NFT boom in 2022, officially suspended services on November 30th, 2024. The company cited the termination of payment processing services by Circle as the immediate cause for the shutdown.

While the company's website claims this is a temporary suspension to "transform its business model," several indicators suggest a more permanent closure:
- Multiple company executives and co-founders, including Kyle Wang (Chief Product Officer) and Terence Leong, have left the company
- An automated support email confirms the company has "ceased all operations"
- OurSong's focus has shifted from NFTs to pre-cleared beats and distribution services
The platform's transformation appears connected to Song Protocol, a new venture co-founded by former Our Happy Company executive Terence Leong in January 2024. Song Protocol describes itself as "the world's first music-focused L3 blockchain" aimed at building a "new musiconomy for the AI era."
The shutdown of OurSong adds to the growing list of casualties in the NFT sector, highlighting the challenges faced by blockchain-based music platforms in maintaining sustainable business models despite significant initial funding.
