After Jane Doe dropped her sexual assault lawsuit, Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) has filed a countersuit against both Doe and her attorney Tony Buzbee, alleging defamation and extortion.

The countersuit claims the initial allegations were "knowingly false" and "maliciously" timed to cause maximum damage to Carter's reputation. The original lawsuit, filed in October and amended in December, had accused both Jay-Z and Diddy (Sean Combs) of sexually assaulting Doe in 2000 at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty when she was allegedly a minor.

Carter's legal team asserts that before making the allegations public, Buzbee sent an "extortionate" demand letter and anonymous lawsuit. When Carter refused to comply, they claim Buzbee publicly named him in the refiled lawsuit.

Key allegations in Jay-Z's countersuit:

  • Doe allegedly admitted to Buzbee that no sexual assault occurred
  • Buzbee reportedly pushed forward with false allegations for financial gain
  • Doe directly admitted to Carter's representatives that the story was false
  • Carter seeks damages for malicious prosecution, abuse of process, civil conspiracy, and defamation

In response, Buzbee stated to Variety that the new case "has no legal merit" and accused Carter's investigators of harassment and intimidation. He claims the quotes attributed to Doe in the countersuit are "completely made up" and maintains that his client stands by her original claims.
