A major data breach at Ticketmaster has exposed personal information of more than 440,000 Taylor Swift ticket buyers, with hackers claiming access to millions more tickets across multiple artist tours.

The hacking group ShinyHunters has threatened to leak data from numerous high-profile tours, including:

  • Pearl Jam
  • Usher's "Past Present Future Tour"
  • P!nk's "Summer Carnival"
  • Aerosmith's "Peace Out Farewell Tour"
  • Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Love Earth Tour"
  • Alanis Morissette's "The Triple Moon Tour"
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Unlimited Love Tour"
  • Bruce Springsteen's 2024 tour
  • Various Cirque du Soleil shows

The hackers claim to possess 193 million barcodes, with over 500,000 for upcoming shows. They have demanded an $8 million ransom to prevent leaking or selling the information. To demonstrate their access, they released Taylor Swift tickets for upcoming Indianapolis shows at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Ticketmaster has begun notifying affected users and offering identity theft monitoring services. The company maintains their SafeTix technology, which generates new barcodes every few seconds, can prevent leaked tickets from being used.

Senator Richard Blumenthal has expressed concern about Ticketmaster's delayed notification of the May hack, urging affected consumers to enroll in the offered credit monitoring service and monitor their bank accounts for suspicious activity.

The breach impacts a significant portion of Ticketmaster's user base, which processed over 620 million tickets in 2023. This security incident coincides with an antitrust lawsuit filed against Live Nation and Ticketmaster by the U.S. Justice Department and 28 state Attorneys General.
