The Recording Academy and MusiCares have pledged $1 million to support music professionals affected by the wildfires. Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of both organizations, emphasized that this year's Grammy telecast will focus on raising additional funds for wildfire relief and honoring first responders.
The MusiCares Person of the Year celebration, scheduled for January 31, will honor The Grateful Dead, featuring a special posthumous tribute to Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh, along with recognition of surviving members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, and Bobby Weir. The event continues a prestigious tradition that has previously celebrated icons like Jon Bon Jovi, Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, and Joni Mitchell.
Major industry players including Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music Group, and Billboard have cancelled their Grammy week events. The Recording Academy has yet to confirm the status of other scheduled activities, such as the Special Merit Awards on February 1.
