The announced return of Fyre Festival is facing significant credibility concerns as local authorities in Isla Mujeres, Mexico deny any knowledge of the event.

Billy McFarland, the convicted fraudster behind the original Fyre Festival disaster, announced tickets are now on sale for Fyre Festival 2, with prices ranging from $1,400 to $1.1 million. The festival is supposedly planned for May 30 - June 2 in Isla Mujeres.

However, Edgar Gasca, representative from Isla Mujeres' tourism directorate, states they have "no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it." Key concerns include:

  • No permits have been requested or granted
  • Listed hotel partners deny any involvement
  • Festival coordinates provided point to the ocean
  • No headliners have been confirmed
  • Local authorities and tourism board were never contacted

The festival organizers, Lostnights, claim they are "working with local allies" and ensuring "full compliance," but local officials remain skeptical. "This festival is not going to happen. There are red flags all over the place," says Gasca.

The situation bears striking similarities to the original Fyre Festival, which resulted in a failed event and McFarland's conviction for fraud. While tickets are being sold, the lack of basic event planning and local authorization raises serious doubts about the festival's legitimacy.
