Eric Clapton's Legendary MTV Unplugged Coming to Theaters After 30 Years
Eric Clapton's iconic 1992 MTV Unplugged performance is getting a theatrical release with "Eric Clapton Unplugged... Over 30 Years Later," featuring restored footage and exclusive content. The special will screen in select US and UK theaters on January 27-28, 2024, before streaming on Paramount+ on February 12.

The remastered version includes beloved acoustic performances like "Tears in Heaven" and "Layla," along with previously unreleased footage and a new interview where Clapton discusses his musical influences. The original Unplugged album sold 26 million copies worldwide, becoming the most successful live album ever released.
The enhanced special is produced through a collaboration between MTV, Surfdog Records, and Surfdog producer John Logsdon. Executive producers include Bruce Gillmer and Vanessa Whitewolf from MTV, alongside Clapton, Michael Eaton, and Dave Kaplan, with Alicia Portugal as series executive and Lisa Lauricella as music talent executive.
Clapton's legacy includes being the only triple inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a solo artist and member of both the Yardbirds and Cream), with career sales exceeding 100 million records worldwide. This theatrical release follows the successful model of A24's recent re-release of The Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense" concert film.
