Deezer reports approximately 10,000 AI-generated tracks are being uploaded to their platform daily, representing about 10% of their total daily content delivery. The streaming service is taking steps to address this growing phenomenon through several initiatives.

The company recently developed an AI music detector that can identify tracks created by popular AI generators like Suno and Udio. The technology is expandable to detect content from other AI models, provided there's access to training data. Deezer is also working on a more advanced system capable of detecting AI-generated content without specific training datasets.

Key findings about AI tracks on Deezer:

  • Most uploaded AI tracks never receive any streams
  • The influx is diluting the catalog and poses potential fraud risks
  • AI content represents roughly 10% of daily uploads (10,000 out of 100,000 tracks)

In response, Deezer's head Alexis Lanternier announced plans to:

  • Develop a tagging system for AI-generated content
  • Exclude AI tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations
  • Protect artists' and songwriters' rights and revenues

This development comes as streaming platforms grapple with AI-generated content. For context, Deezer currently offers access to over 120 million tracks, while Spotify provides access to over 100 million tracks. Recent data from Luminate indicates an average of 99,000 new recordings arriving on digital streaming platforms daily in 2024, showing a 4.4% decrease from 2023.

The platform aims to balance the potential benefits of generative AI in music creation while maintaining the integrity of human-created content and protecting artists' interests.
