The achievement comes amid a significant copyright infringement lawsuit, where artists Tykeiya Dore and Marc Stephens are seeking $5 million in damages. They claim "No Guidance" copied their 2016 song "I Got It," citing identical chord progressions, tempo, pitch, key, melody, harmony, rhythm, structure, phrasing, and lyrics with minimal changes.
The lawsuit names multiple defendants including:
- Chris Brown and Drake
- Co-writers: Velous, Nija Charles, and Michee Lebrun
- Producers: Noah "40" Shebib, Vinylz, J-Louis, and Teddy Walton
- Brown's label RCA Records and other music publishers
Additionally, the plaintiffs are pursuing action against YouTube, Google, and Alphabet for alleged defamation following a dispute over a takedown notice that resulted in Stephens' channel deletion.
This marks the second copyright challenge for "No Guidance," following a previous lawsuit in 2021 that was subsequently dropped.
