The film chronicles Dylan's early years in New York's Greenwich Village folk scene during the 1960s, culminating in his controversial electric performance of "Like a Rolling Stone" at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

Director James Mangold collaborated closely with Dylan during production, receiving notes on the script. The star-studded cast includes:

  • Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez
  • Edward Norton as Pete Seeger
  • Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash
  • Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie
  • Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo (a fictional character based on Suze Rotolo)

Chalamet responded to Dylan's endorsement with gratitude, writing: "Floored. I am so grateful. Thank you Bob."

"A Complete Unknown," written by Mangold and Jay Cocks and produced by Dylan's manager Jeff Rosen, is scheduled for release on December 25.
