Ghislaine Maxwell Prosecutor Maurene Comey Joins Diddy Sex Trafficking Case
The lead prosecutor who helped convict Ghislaine Maxwell has joined the Department of Justice's case against Sean "Diddy" Combs. Maurene Comey, daughter of former FBI director James Comey, officially joined the prosecution team on Monday in their pursuit of sex trafficking charges against the music mogul.
Diddy's face in serious expression
Comey's most notable achievement was serving as one of three lead prosecutors in the successful 2021 conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell for conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein in sexually trafficking and abusing minors. Her legal background includes clerking for a federal judge in New York and working at Debevoise & Plimpton.
The court has denied Combs bail three times, citing his alleged history of using violence, firearms, kidnapping, and arson to intimidate victims and witnesses through his business empire. Evidence suggests he has attempted to maintain communication with individuals he's been barred from contacting.
Combs's defense team, led by Marc Agnifilo, continues to fight the charges. They recently requested a court order to prevent a potential jury from considering allegedly leaked evidence, including 2016 hotel surveillance footage showing Combs assaulting former girlfriend Cassie Ventura. Combs claims the Department of Homeland Security leaked this footage to CNN to influence the grand jury.
The court has ordered prosecutors to submit an affidavit confirming they did not leak the evidence, while maintaining grand jury confidentiality. Agnifilo, who previously worked with Harvey Weinstein's former lawyer Ben Brafman, has represented other high-profile clients including Martin Shkreli, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, and NXIVM leader Keith Raniere.
