During the performance, Cyrus appeared disoriented, asking the audience, "Check? Is anybody awake?" while struggling with malfunctioning equipment. Though he later defended his appearance in a statement to People magazine, explaining he was "honored" to perform regardless of technical issues, his family has expressed serious concerns about his wellbeing.
His son Trace Cyrus, 35, shared an emotional Instagram post stating, "The man that I wanted so desperately to be just like, I barely recognize now. We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew, and hoping for the day he returns. You're not healthy, Dad, and everyone is noticing it."
Further adding to these concerns, Billy Ray's ex-wife Firerose, who divorced the country star after a seven-month marriage, told The New York Post that his public behavior mirrors private struggles she witnessed during their relationship. She emphasized the importance of confronting these issues, stating, "healing is only possible when you confront the truth and accept there's a problem."
The 63-year-old singer's current condition has prompted widespread discussion among fans and family members, with many calling for intervention and support for the country music veteran.
