Altice USA's Copyright Battle with Warner Music Continues Despite BMG Settlement - Discovery Dispute Escalates
Altice USA continues to face legal challenges from Warner Music Group (WMG) over copyright infringement claims, despite recently settling a similar lawsuit with BMG.
The ongoing dispute stems from a December 2023 complaint filed by WMG and Sony Music Entertainment, alleging Altice failed to address repeated copyright violations by its subscribers.
In early August, the plaintiffs filed a motion to compel additional discovery, noting that while Altice had provided extensive documentation in the BMG case, they've only produced 1,408 documents in the current lawsuit over eight months. The plaintiffs requested the court order Altice to produce all BMG suit discovery materials within 10 days.

Altice strongly opposed this request, calling it "pure overreach" that would create "needless distraction and expense." The court has scheduled a hearing for September 9th to address the discovery dispute.
This case represents part of a broader trend of copyright infringement suits targeting Internet Service Providers (ISPs):
- Verizon faced a new complaint in July
- Cox Communications is taking its ongoing infringement case to the Supreme Court
- The Cox copyright case will mark its five-year anniversary of the jury verdict this December
