The Atlanta rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, received a 15-year probation sentence with no additional prison time after entering a non-negotiated guilty plea. The case centered around alleged RICO violations involving Williams and other YSL Records members.
"Words can't express the incredible happiness and relief I feel to learn of Jeffery's freedom," Liles stated. He emphasized the importance of recognizing artists as human beings rather than fictional characters, while noting future discussions needed about the criminalization of hip-hop lyrics and bond denial practices.
As part of his sentencing, Williams must:
- Avoid the Atlanta metro area except under special circumstances
- Conduct regular anti-gang and anti-violence presentations
- Take full responsibility for his community influence
Williams addressed the court directly, stating, "I know what I bring to the table and I know what I am. I know the heights I've reached and I know the impact I've got on people in the community."
The verdict concludes a trial that began in November 2023, following Williams' arrest in May 2022 alongside numerous others in a sweeping indictment under Georgia's RICO law.
