Speaking alongside his attorney Brian Steel, the rapper emphasized how defense lawyers perform "God's work" by protecting individuals from unjust imprisonment. Drawing from his personal experience with the justice system, he stressed that everyone is "one mistake away" from needing legal representation.

The 33-year-old artist spent over 900 days in custody facing RICO charges before his release on October 31, 2024. His plea deal included guilty pleas to multiple charges while maintaining a no-contest stance on racketeering, resulting in 15 years of probation.

Young Thug's message to law students highlighted the critical role defense attorneys play in ensuring fair treatment under the law. "I think it's very important to help people out of the situations they're in the best you can," he stated, reflecting on how his own legal challenges gave him a deeper appreciation for defense lawyers' impact on people's lives.

His advocacy marks a significant shift from his previous public persona, now focusing on inspiring future lawyers to protect individuals' rights and maintain balance in the justice system. Through sharing his experiences, he aims to motivate law students to consider defense law as a meaningful career path that can profoundly affect people's lives and ensure equitable justice.
