Wiz Khalifa Faces Criminal Charges in Romania Over On-Stage Cannabis Use
Romanian prosecutors have indicted Wiz Khalifa for smoking cannabis during his performance at the Beach Please! festival on the Black Sea coast. The rapper, whose legal name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, is being investigated by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
The incident occurred on July 13 when authorities arrested Khalifa after he smoked a joint on stage. Officials found him in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis, along with evidence of consumption. In Romania, cannabis possession is illegal and carries a potential sentence of three months to two years.
Following his release, Khalifa apologized on social media: "Last night's show was amazing. I didn't mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up onstage. They were very respectful and let me go. I'll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time."
Khalifa is well-known in the cannabis industry, operating Khalifa Kush, a cannabis brand featuring a custom-developed strain. The rapper has been openly public about his cannabis use, recently tweeting about smoking before throwing the first pitch at a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game.
