Universal Music Releases Nirvana 'Nevermind' 30th Anniversary Editions, Keeps Iconic Original Cover Despite Lawsuit
Universal Music has released 30th anniversary editions of Nirvana's 'Nevermind' album featuring the original, unaltered cover art, despite an ongoing child-pornography lawsuit from Spencer Elden, who appeared on the album cover as a baby.

The release includes multiple formats, with CD versions and a 1LP version shipping in November. A premium edition featuring eight 180-gram LPs is scheduled for release in May 2022. The anniversary collection maintains the iconic cover photo, suggesting Universal Music Group's confidence in their legal position against Elden's lawsuit.
Elden's lawsuit demands "all profits and unjust enrichment" from the album, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The legal battle continues as Elden prepares to submit an amended complaint, with defendants required to respond by January 21st.
While Dave Grohl has suggested Nirvana might eventually change the cover, Universal Music has proceeded with the anniversary release as planned. The case recently saw new developments when an "intervenor defendant" attempted to join the suit, though the request was dismissed by the presiding judge.
