Tesla has issued a recall for 46,096 Cybertrucks from the 2024 and 2025 model years due to a critical safety defect. The recall affects nearly all units delivered since November 2023.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified a dangerous flaw in the cant rail assembly - the stainless steel panel strip along the windshield and roof. These panels can detach while driving, creating road hazards and increasing collision risks. Social media videos have shown the panels being easily removed by hand.

The issue stems from inadequate structural adhesive that may fail under environmental stress. Tesla has already developed an improved adhesive compound and reinforcement method to fix the problem.

Key Actions for Owners:

  • Free replacement of cant rail panels
  • Official notices will be mailed starting May 19, 2025
  • Contact Tesla at 1-877-798-3752 for support
  • Visit nhtsa.gov for updates
  • Avoid high-speed driving until repairs are completed

This marks the eighth Cybertruck recall in just over a year. Previous recalls addressed:

  • Electric inverter failures
  • Sticking acceleration pedals
  • Windshield wiper problems
  • Display screen malfunctions
  • Improper lighting issues

The recall has contributed to a 42% drop in Tesla's stock price in 2025. The company faces additional challenges from Chinese EV competition and recent incidents of vandalism at Tesla facilities.

While no injuries have been reported from the panel defect, regulators emphasize the importance of immediate repairs to prevent potential accidents. Tesla has suspended deliveries until the safety issue is resolved.
