The suspension comes shortly after Coote officiated Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. While the video's authenticity remains under investigation, PGMOL has taken immediate action by removing Coote from officiating duties until further notice.

PGMOL released a statement confirming: "We have suspended David Coote with immediate effect while a full investigation is conducted. No further comment will be made at this time."

The controversy stems from a historical context involving a Liverpool-Burnley match in July 2020, where Klopp criticized Coote's refereeing decisions. During that match, Klopp expressed concerns about Coote's leniency towards physical play, stating, "The referee let lots of challenges go, which made it dangerous in the box."

The suspension highlights the critical importance of maintaining impartiality in Premier League officiating. As per standard practice, referees must declare club affiliations to avoid conflicts of interest. Coote, registered as a Notts County supporter, is already prohibited from officiating matches involving County or Nottingham Forest.

This incident has sparked significant debate about referee neutrality and its impact on the Premier League's integrity. The PGMOL investigation will assess both the video's authenticity and its potential implications for professional football officiating standards.
