Holder's appeal contested two main points:

  • The court's decision to disallow portions of his attorney's closing argument about his state of mind
  • The addition of a firearm enhancement to his sentence

The appeals court rejected both arguments, noting that Holder never testified and no evidence was presented about his thoughts or feelings before the shooting. The court also affirmed that the firearm enhancement was properly applied, citing the "high degree of cruelty, viciousness, and callousness" in the murder.

The 2019 killing of Nipsey Hussle had a significant impact on the hip-hop community, with artists like Freddie Gibbs revealing that the murder nearly led him to quit music. Gibbs addresses this in his new track "On the Set" and his album You Only Die 1nce, which also references other significant losses in hip-hop history.
