The series follows multiple lawsuits filed against Combs, including accusations from ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and other alleged victims. Recent developments include Combs' arrest in New York on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, fraud, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty but was denied bail.

50 Cent and Stapleton stated to Variety that the documentary aims to present "authentic and nuanced perspectives" while acknowledging the broader context of hip-hop culture. They emphasized that profits from the documentary will support sexual assault victims.

The project gained momentum after multiple accusations emerged against Combs, including a leaked video confirming Ventura's assault allegations. While Combs settled Ventura's lawsuit quickly, he faces numerous other legal challenges from plaintiffs including Rodney Jones, Grace O'Marcaigh, Crystal McKinney, Dawn Richard, Joi Dickerson-Neal, Liza Gardner, April Lampros, Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, multiple Jane Does, and Thalia Graves.
