Bandcamp CEO Ethan Diamond announced that 100% of the company's proceeds from sales on Friday will be donated to the ACLU. The protest, marked by the hashtag "#NoBanNoWall," has garnered support from prominent indie labels including Kill Rock Stars, Tompkins Square, and Merge Records.
Notable participants have committed to various forms of support:
- Son Lux will donate proceeds from "At War with Walls and Mazes" to the ACLU for four years
- Xiu Xiu pledged all Bandcamp revenues to the ACLU for the same period
- Some labels are directing funds to other organizations, such as the Nigerian Muslim Association of New York
Diamond emphasized America's immigrant foundation, noting that 98% of U.S. citizens, including the President, descend from immigrants. He stated that the executive order "violates the very spirit and foundation of America."
The executive order, signed on January 27, implemented:
- Temporary ban on entry from seven Muslim-majority nations
- 120-day halt on all refugee admissions
- Indefinite ban on Syrian refugees
