
Live Nation to Operate Massive 19,000-Seat Minnesota Amphitheater in Canterbury Commons
Live Nation has secured the rights to operate a new 19,000-seat outdoor amphitheater in Shakopee, Minnesota, set to open in 2025. The venue will be part of the $400 million Canterbury Commons entertainment district near Canterbury Park.

The state-of-the-art facility, developed by Swervo Development Corp., will feature:
- A sloped artificial turf lawn accommodating 5,000+ people
- Two elevated beer gardens with standing room
- VIP skyboxes for up to 500 people
- Panoramic views of the Minnesota River Valley
The venue is expected to:
- Host 30+ events each summer
- Create 700 new jobs
- Become Live Nation's second Minnesota venue alongside the Fillmore Minneapolis
- Join Live Nation's portfolio of 265+ North American venues
The broader Canterbury Commons development will include:
- 1,000 apartment units
- A brewery
- Multiple restaurants
- 28,000 square-foot office building
Ned Abdul, President & CEO of Swervo, emphasized the partnership's potential to enhance the region's entertainment offerings. However, this expansion comes as Live Nation faces a Department of Justice antitrust lawsuit regarding alleged monopolistic practices in the live entertainment industry, though the case's future remains uncertain under changing administration.
